If you fancy getting fitter and making new friends for free, then come along to one of our local health walks.
A health walk is a short local guided walk, which is slightly faster than a stroll, to make you feel warm and get your heart beating a little faster. The walks will be free for anyone wanting to take part and there will be walks at different levels, from beginners to advanced.
Leisa Bright, Health Walks Co-ordinator, says: “We want as many people as possible to come along and take part, no matter what their ability. We are a friendly bunch and will make everyone welcome and a trained walks leader will be at the front and back of every group so no one will get left behind.”
Tony Bass, chief executive of Anglia Community Leisure, adds: “Regular walking is a great free way to stay fit and healthy. It strengthens your bones and may help to reduce your blood pressure as well as reducing the risk of strokes or heart disease. Anyone can do it with us and the more the merrier.”
The scheme is being funded by a range of partners including Anglia Community Leisure, Forest Heath District Council, Sport England, through the local West Anglia Sports Partnership and Suffolk Sport through the Active Wellbeing Programme.
The walks are free of charge and there is no need to book in advance but you will have to fill in a simple health questionnaire before your first walk so please arrive 15 minutes before the start.
