Discover the many benefits of walking.

If you would like to improve your health and meet new people then come along to our local health walks.

A health walk is a short brisk walk led by trained walk leaders who will encourage you to go at your own pace. The walk should make you feel warm and get your heart beating a bit faster.

Mick Smith – Volunteer Health Walks Coordinator says” We would like as many people as possible to take part. There are different levels of walks to suit everyone, the leaders are very friendly and supportive and there are so many health and social benefits. The walks started in August 09 and we now offer weekly walks for absolute beginners and for those who want to exercise regularly, plus a seasonal prgramme throughout the Newmarket and Mildenhall areas ”

Tony Bass, chief executive of Anglia Community Leisure, adds:
“Regular walking is a great free way to stay fit and healthy. It strengthens your bones and may help to reduce your blood pressure as well as reducing the risk of strokes or heart disease.
Anyone can do it with us and the more the merrier”
.

The scheme works within Natural England's "Walking the way to Health Initiative" and is funded by Anglia Community Leisure and Forest Heath District Council.
The walks are free of charge and there is no need to book in advance but you will need to fill in a simple health questionnaire before your first walk so we can track your progress.  Click here to download a copy of our main leaflet which outlines how the scheme works and our latest seasonal programme here.
