Olympic fans will be excited to hear that they can have their photo taken holding one of the genuine Olympic Flames at Newmarket Leisure Centre on 7 & 9 July and help raise money for charity.
The torch on display at the leisure centre will be the one that Maxine Burgess will be carrying on her leg of the Torch Relay on 5 July in Ipswich.
Maxine, 36, lives in Exning and was nominated to carry the Olympic Flame by her mother for her dedication to sport. Maxine has had an interest in sport since her teens and has completed the London Marathon three times. She has just qualified for the World Duathlon Championships (running and cycling), to be held in Gijon Spain this September, representing Great Britain.
Maxine says “I will have already had the incredible honour of carrying the flame, so I want to give as many people as possible the chance to hold the torch for themselves.” Maxine will be raising money for the Heart Foundation and The Anglia Community Leisure Pool Hoist Fund.
Keiran Williams, Newmarket Leisure Centre’s Community Sports Leader, says: “This is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to get this close to the Olympic experience. Come along with your camera and get a photo of yourself carrying the flame and help raise money for some worthwhile causes.”
